UNO SPEECH

VETHATHIRI MAHARISHI’S IMMORTAL SPEECH

AT THE UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATION,

 NEW YORK, U.S.A.ON 9TH JANUARY 1975

“Dear Friends, I am very much glad to see all of you gathered here with a noble aim
of hearing something about spiritual development. The spiritual knowledge is
very important to make our life perfect and to maintain peace in the life of one
and all on the Globe. This great Organization U.N.O. has been started and is
functioning only with the aim of establishing peace among mankind. In both
political and economic fields, the U.N.O. strives hard to bring peace.
”It is a noble scheme to bring the representatives of all nations under one roof
and make them think about the international peace which is the only hope of
survival of mankind against the dangerous atomic weapons. The world of philosophical
wisdom and intellectuals of international thought will appreciate the useful works of U.N.O.

Spiritual Knowledge Development:

”Here I have to point out one more things which are also very much important
for peace. That is the development of spiritual knowledge among mankind.
“Of course material comforts are essential for peaceful life but without spiritual knowledge,
material comforts alone will not bring satisfaction or peace in life.
“Here I will give an example. Food, shelter and clothes are the important commodities
in materials comforts. Please visualize the whole world and the available stocks of these
three main commodities.
“The clothes in stock at present will be sufficient for the next two years for all people even though
the whole world stops production at once. Similarly, the present stock of food will be
sufficient for one year. If the shelters are restricted to the area of actual need, no one in
the world will have to suffer for want of shelter. With some persons and with some countries
these commodities may be less; and with others they are in surplus.
”The development of spiritual knowledge only will enable mankind to share all the needs
with love, respect and responsibility. The love which blossoms in a man as a natural process
by spiritual development will enable him to understand the feelings of others, to respect
the needs and ambitions of others and to cooperate in the effort of satisfactory living by
willing sacrifice on one’s own physical, financial and intellectual abilities. Therefore, in
addition to the efforts for increasing the material comforts by political and
economic means, an opportunity for spiritual development in the human society
should be provided so that all deserving persons will develop spiritual knowledge in time.
“Let us consider: What is the spiritual development? In the process of living, the mind is
the nucleus and important phenomenon. When one understands the values and wonders
of the mind, he can enjoy life successfully and happily.

Life force and mind:

“As the mind is only the psychic extension of the life force, it is imperative first to know about the
life force which is the base of the mind. The life force and the mind both are secret
phenomena in the personality of man. These cannot be understood by any of our conventional
five senses.
”It is only by a systematic psychic practice, with the mind tracing its own base, the existence
and functions of both the life force and the mind and their relationship with one
another can be understood. Such a psychic practice is called ‘meditation’ or
‘Kundalini Yoga’. Kundalini is the name of the fundamental supreme universal energy,
the divine spirit. The life force in any living being is a part and parcel of the universal force,
which governs the universal functions. In fact, it is the association of such force
(energy-particles) in various intensities that conditions all the manifestations.
“Therefore, it is to be understood that the spirit is the basic principle of all the physical
manifestations as well as the psychic function, the mind. Realization of the spirit, its
existence, functions and results is spiritual knowledge or wisdom. This is the Science of
all sciences. Living with material knowledge alone is one sided load to the mind.
For balanced life, spiritual knowledge also is a must.

Realization of life force:

“How to realize the spirit within us, which is working as the life force? Although the
life force is pervading the entire body, it has a working centre in a particular place in
the physical body. Generally the working centre of the life force is at the base of
the spine which is called Mooladar by ancient yogis. Unless this centre is changed
from Mooladar to Agna Chakra, the point between the eye-brows, the presence of
the life-force cannot be perceived by the mind.
“The ancient yogis tried to change the centre by breathing exercises or by chanting
mantras. Both the methods were strenuous and time-consuming. Many years were
required to bring the energy up. Meanwhile if the energy got stuck up on the way,
the aspirant had to suffer from some ill-effects too. Therefore, family people could not
practice and get the benefit of this yoga.
”Now, we have found out a safe, sure and quick method to bring up the
working centre of the life force. A master trained in Kundalini Yoga can easily intensify
the life force of an aspirant within minutes and bring it up by a touch method.
“After the master has fixed up the working centre of Kundalini power, the aspirant has
to simply observe the force of the power mentally. This process becomes Meditation.
Mere observation of the force mentally develops awareness of the mind, conserves
the life force from wastage, and improves steadiness and peace of mind.
By the mind observing its own base, the existence and functions of both the life force
and mind and the relationship between them will be understood as a practical experience.

“Activating the life force, the Kundalini power, from Mooladar and fixing it up at the
Agna Centre of an Aspirant by an eminent master is the Initiation. This is the first step
in the spiritual practice. There are some other practices which are to be learnt
and followed one by one. We, the members of the World Community Service Centre
call this Kundalini Meditation as Simplified Kundalini Yoga (SKY).

Simplified Kundalini Yoga:

“SKY has four processes on the whole. They are:
(1) Meditation, (2) Introspection, (3) Sublimation and (4) Perfection.
Meditation develops will power and peace of mind.
Introspection enlightens the knowledge and guides one as a life light.
The process of Sublimation metamorphoses the character by gradual changes
in one’s habits.
Perfection is the fruit and significance of the spiritual development.
The full course of SKY can be completed in ten sittings of one hour each.
“Dear friends, man are a peculiar living being who is always struggling between
habit and wisdom.
After he is developed in thinking abilities, only through a systematic spiritual practice
he can achieve the goal of perfection.
“The aim of the World Community Service Centre is to spread the spiritual knowledge
to the people of all nations. After a long period of research over forty years of my life,
I found out that only spiritual knowledge will result in peace, within self, in the society
and among nations. I formulated a safe and perfect method for spiritual development
and am teaching it to deserving persons. I am ready to impart my knowledge to any friends
who is willing to undergo the wonderful psychic practice SKY.

With these words, I conclude my speech and wish all of you good health

, long life prosperity and peace.”

PSHYCHOLOGY

PSYCHOLOGY
While Physics and Chemistry continue their work biologically, here they go beyond the gamut of matter. According to Vethathiri, it is the MIND. Mind is a well refined matter and more powerful than matter with its powerful tool called Thinking. This is more to an individual as Self and its refinement comes from the way one live – as per the 5 principles of virtuous living and mind training.
(Wherever the word man is used it includes woman also.) Biologically evolved man is endowed with the 6th sense – the ability to think. Thinking is also a part of the Bio magnetic conversion and consumption. While matter remained as a part of nature and all living beings up to animals used nature as it is, it is only man who is able to convert nature to his comforts and convenience. This shows the power of his thinking mind.
Though man by size is a speck of a dust compared to universe, has a fleeing life time compared to the life time of stars, but has the power of mind much greater than the universe. Only because of this capacity man is able to study the secrets of nature and use it to his advantage.
Unfortunately the mind has evolved from the past nature of animal instincts with its roots based on the 5 senses, it tends to behave intoxicated with brutal power and sensory comforts. Therefore man needs a refined thinking and a better mind training. The present education system has grossly failed and made things worse.
MORE ABOUT PSYCHOLOGY

The name man is given referring to his Mind And Nature and not to his body matter. Mind is excited with its thoughts. Thoughts emanate from 6 sources namely, Needs, Habits, Environment, Others imposition, Genetics and Divinity. Based on the type of thoughts mind takes the shape and frequency of such thoughts for actions. This action may be another thought or talk or deed.
This determines ones behavior and continuation of such behavior becomes the habit and a repeated habit forms ones personality. Higher the frequency of mind show aggression/agitation and the lower frequency show the calmness. Agitation drains energy while calmness conserve energy. We need energy for better mind functions. Therefore the mind needs to be trained to follow 5 principles of living. They are simple to follow and powerful in its results.
Earn livelihood thorough own efforts. ( Do not live out of some one else’s earning)
Do not hurt mentally / physically yourself and others. ( Love all )
Do not kill to eat. ( Be Vegetarian)
Do not trespass others’ property and their freedom to live.
Help the sufferings to the extent possible. ( Develop habit of helping others)
Individuals must think to decide to act. Reflexive actions are for non thinkers. Train mind to think cool and act in harmony with nature. After all man is a product of nature, he enjoys when he is in harmony with nature and suffers when he is in disharmony with nature.
Let us learn the art of thinking, working and living for a happy life.

NATURE, ECOLOGY & ENVIRONMENT

NATURE
Nature can be comprehended only by the mind. The base for all appearances in the universe is the absolute space. It is everlasting, singular, almighty, all-penetrative, thoroughly permeable, highly transparent, imperceptible, dark fluid matter. It is characterized by kinematic quivering, inexhaustible, surrounding pressure force.
Because of this kinematic quivering and surrounding pressure force the absolute space is constantly converted to infinitesimal spinning dust particles called formative dust particles. The formative dust particles are magnetic and repulsive. These formative dust particles are again aggregated to form energy particles. The energy particle is the first of the five elements viz., aakash, air, fire, water and earth.
The association of energy particles lead to formation of other four elements viz., air (vaayu), fire (heavy air), water (liquid) and earth (solid). These five elements only constitute the entire universe. The prevailing space between to energy particles or two stars or planets is filled with formative dust particles which are magnetic. Hence, the entire universe is linked by the magnetism. This magnetism is called universal magnetism.

Hence, the entire universe is linked by the magnetism. This magnetism is called universal magnetism.
All the appearances in the universe are only the action state of the absolute space called Almighty or God. Hence, the absolute space, the stars, the world, the trees and all the creatures including mankind on the whole are called Nature. Anything or any action which is not made but came into existence of its own by evolution, unaided by human efforts is called Nature.
Nature exists in two states; the basic absolute space and the transformed dynamic state – universe. The prime state of nature is called God or Almighty. Nature is identified as Unified Force, the source of all forces with four indivisible innate attributes viz.,
  • Plenum – inexhaustible stock; fullness.
  • Almighty – omnipotent force.
  • Consciousness – functional order.
  • Time

  • ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT
Of all the four innate properties of Gravity (nature), consciousness is very important and very valuable. The orderly functions in the transformation of the Gravity to multi various appearances up to man are called Consciousness. It is the one which is perfectly regulating and directing the force of imperceptible Gravity to perceptible appearances of the universe.
The first step of the consciousness in the evolution of universe is the transformation of absolute space in to formative dust particles which are magnetic and repulsive in function.
The surrounding pressure force of Gravity and the magnetic repulsive force of the formative dust particles pave way for the formation of five elements and the universe with conscientious aspects of pattern, precision and regularity.
Consciousness further acts in the association of the five elements in suitable proportions, to become an inorganic mass to the level of gaining the perceptual ability containing three vital aspects viz., cognition, experience and discrimination. This invaluable system of consciousness working in each and every living being enables its survival and development throughout life.
In the evolution of living being from one sense organism up to man, the consciousness plays a vital role as interactions between living and non-living things (biotic and abiotic). These interactions are constantly occurring through bio-magnetism (from living being) and universal magnetism (from non-living being).
For the living beings, the needed energy is supplied from the environment in which they live. The environment includes living and non-living things. The magnetism from the environment is considered to be universal magnetism with relation to that particular organism we consider.
The word ecology is derived from the Greek word oikos meaning “household” and logos meaning “knowledge”. The German biologist Ernst Haeckel (1866) who coined the word ecology defines it as “the comprehensive science of the relationship of the organism to the environment.” Its elaborated meaning is given as: ecology is the scientific study of the distribution and abundance of living organisms and the interactions among organisms and between organisms and the environment.

KAYAKALPA Y0GA

KAYAKALPA YOGA

Restructuring the body in a natural way, Kaya Kalpa helps cure and prevent diseases. It relieves the practitioner of many of the troubles of aging.
Kayakalpa Yoga is an ancient wonderful technique of the Siddhas(saints) of South India for the enhancement of life energy.
In Sanskrit, the term "Kaya" means "body and "Kalpa" means "immortal". The Science of Kayakalpa delineates the manner in which the human body can be immortalised.
KAYAKALPA HAS A THREE FOLD OBJECTIVE
  • Maintaining youthfulness and physical health,
  • Resisting and slowing down the aging process,
  • Postponing death until one reaches spiritual perfection.
In order to understand the science of Kaya Kalpa, we have to study the functioning of the human system. This system mainly comprises: (a) The physical body; (b) The mind; (c) The bio-magnetism (d) The life-force; and (e) The sexual vital fluid.
As the diagram illustrates, these are all interrelated:

PHILOSOPHY

PHILOSOPHY

It can be readily accepted by one and all that the life of man is full of problems. What cannot be so readily accepted is that there are solutions to all the problems. Proper solutions are easily and quickly available for deep-thinking, clear-headed individuals. For others, however, pain and misery flow from every problem. Unlike other living beings, man is a peculiar phenomenon comprised of dual forces. Nature and will are in constant conflict, one striving to overcome the other. In other living beings, will is subdued by Nature, and as a result, there is no conflict between Nature and Will. Will functioning in harmony with Nature is known as instinct. Generally, will in men is very powerful, and always tries to overcome Nature. Will registers some success and failure every now and then through its zeal and actions. But until perfection is achieved through accurately assessing the relative strength of Will and Nature, possibilities of failure will exist in every moment of zeal or action. This will be in accordance with the time, place and object of contact.
In its effort to subdue Nature, will, by taking an incorrect approach, creates more problems than it solves. Even though there are solutions to all problems, the intervening period between problem and solution becomes one of trouble and disturbance both to the body and to the mind. So the preventive method is better than the curative.
The purpose of man’s birth on earth is to develop knowledge to its fullest in order to experience joy, satisfaction and peace. In the process of developing knowledge, it is also necessary to have sufficient mental and physical comforts to maintain the body in proper condition.

MORE ABOUT PHILOSOPHY

The span of man’s life is limited. If he spends most of his life undergoing pain and misery created by Will, then he will not fulfil the purpose of his birth.
In order to make life purposeful and to enjoy happiness, success, peace and harmony, man should simultaneously maintain harmony in thought and deed in conjunction with three factors:
  • The creation of problems produced by will should be reduced and stopped
  • Ability to solve the problems arising from the law of Nature should be developed
  • The opportunity for everyone in society to enjoy his birthright, and full freedom, which would enable him to reach the goal of perfection, should be developed and maintained.
To achieve, maintain and enjoy all these values in life, one must:
  • Regulate one’s moral behaviour,
  • Achieve sufficient material prosperity in society, and
  • Realize the law of Nature and its unfailing cause and effect system.
These are essential requirements. Ignorance, neglect, or the absence of even one of these three requirements will proportionately result in pain, misery, and disturbance to man.

INTROSPECTION

INTROSPECTION
The process of analyzing and getting a total understanding of oneself.
Introspection is a practical methodology for sublimating the negative emotions
of greed, anger, vengeance, etc., Between Thuriya and Thuriateetham the aspirant
has to put himself though some important psychic practices under the process
of Introspection in order to have his character reformed, to get enlightenment and
to enjoy peaceful and happy life.
SYNOPSIS
  • Practical self-analysis tools designed to take stock of positive and negative characteristics
  • in your personality.
  • Eliminate the unnecessary and incompatible aspects of your character.
  • Strengthen the habits of good thought, word, deed and discerning and rejecting the
  • habits unwanted.
  • Analysis of Thoughts.
  • Moralization of Desires.
  • Neutralization of Anger.
  • Eradication of Worries.
  • Who am I - Realization of the Self?.
  • By exposition and practical techniques of introspection, one is enabled to suitably
  •  modify his or her hereditary and past traits.
  • One is able to change one's personality and bring out the latent talent and innate
  •  strength resulting in cheerful and successful life.
  • The process of analyzing and getting a total understanding of oneself.
  • A systematic practice to get this understanding and to lead a life without
  • causing pain to self and others.
  • In my lifetime, I will not cause harm to the mind or body of myself or others,
  • in the present or in the future.
  • I will try to remove the suffering of others to the maximum extent possible.

FIVE PRIMARY ASPECTS OF INTROSPECTION
These practices will make a man to understand the value of his own existence.
By constant research and by leading a virtuous way of life, he dissipates the imprints of sins day by day. As a result, the soul becomes pure and perfect and his mind is peaceful.

BENEFITS
TWO FOLD MORAL PRINCIPLE
Introspection helps us to acheive the two fold moral principle
framed by
Shri Vethathiri Maharishi to lead a harmonious life.
While Introspection enables us to identify the necessary steps
for bringing abou
t a harmonious transformation, Simplified Kundalini Yoga
strengthens and provides
the necessary power, to our mind and thoughts emanating
 from it, to complete
the transformation.
STAGES OF INTROSPECTION
Undertaken after basic training in physical exercises
and SKY meditation
, the SKY practitioner
, is put into four stages of introspection.
The philosophy they learn during these stages
are as follow
SWAMIJI'S POEM ON INTROSPECTION

The state of Awareness Is the light of lights with which you should rescue and steady your untrained mind, that is now being tossed about in a whirl pool as it were of likes and dislikes. Introspection intense Would charge your life with love and consciousness would develop to trace its origin. Truth would shine forth In pristine effulgence and misery would abate in the onset of peacefulness. Then and then alone Would you be euabled to terminate for good The cycle of birth and death ---

SIMPLIFIED PHYSICAL EXCERCISES

SIMPLIFIED PHYSICAL EXERCISES

Maintains general fitness; develops the immunity system and thus acts as a preventive
and as a curative to various diseases.
Yogiraj Shri Vethathiri Maharishi after years of intense research has systematized a
series of exercises that is suitable for all climates and all sections of the human
community in the contemporary age. In the human physical system, the subtle
life-force and the gross body are linked by three media: blood, heat and air.
If the normal quantity and quality of these media and their circulation are
adversely affected, the harmony between the body and life-force is disturbed
 and the result is pain.
For maintaining good health one must guard against disturbances in the body, life-force
and the three media of blood, heat and air. Neglect, improper or over-indulgence in food,
sleep, work, sex and use of thought-force cause disturbance to the normal functioning
of the body in various ways. Natural causes such as climatic changes, hereditary
imprints and changes in the planetary configurations and radiation also can disturb
the health and mind. It is not possible to change any of these natural forces,
but we can always be cautious in our own actions and thus avoid harmful results,
and practice regular exercise to maintain the required fitness.
If spiritual development is to take place, the body must be free of diseases and
pain to the maximum extent. Therefore, all spiritual aspirants are first and foremost
advised to take up this system of physical health that would enable one to reap much
more benefits in spiritual practices.
